Costa Rican authorities have executed a large-scale operation targeting a major international drug trafficking cartel, known as the Riverside case. Approximately 1,500 police officers, judges, and prosecutors participated in raids across multiple locations, including homes, farms, and hotels. The operation represents the largest anti-narcotics effort in Costa Rica’s history, and the second international drug cartel dismantled in the country. Authorities are focusing on Edwin López, alias “Pecho de Rata,” who is believed to be the leader of the organization. The operation aims to disrupt the cartel’s operations and bring those involved to justice. Further details regarding seized assets and the full extent of the cartel’s network are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
