Construction crews have begun exploratory tunneling near Luk pod Medníkem to assess geological conditions for the central Bohemia section of the D3 highway. This 1500-meter tunnel will take approximately two years to complete and is a key step towards the highway’s full construction, slated to begin in 2028. The surveys are crucial for understanding the terrain and ensuring a stable foundation for the new roadway. However, the project faces opposition from citizen and environmental groups. The Road and Motorways Directorate is continuing preparations for the entire main route, with two sections in central Bohemia having preliminary land-use decisions. Sections between Prague and Benešov are still awaiting necessary documentation.
