Colombia has officially opened its embassy in Jerusalem, two months after the country’s new president announced the relocation from Tel Aviv. Colombian Foreign Minister Omar Bula stated during Wednesday’s opening ceremony that the embassy represents a clear demonstration of their commitment to resuming dialogue. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar welcomed the opening, describing it as “a day of celebration” for the relationship between Israel and Colombia. The move signifies a strengthening of ties between the two nations, despite ongoing international debate surrounding the status of Jerusalem. The embassy’s opening follows a decision made by Colombia’s current administration to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This development further solidifies Colombia’s position on the issue and signals a shift in its foreign policy approach to the region. The opening ceremony marked a formal step in establishing a direct diplomatic presence in Jerusalem.
