A new report from UNICEF reveals that nearly every child globally faces at least one climate-related threat, with over four million exposed to as many as six. Approximately 1.1 billion children – almost half the world’s child population – are currently grappling with at least three concurrent climate shocks. These threats include extreme heat, floods, cyclones, water scarcity, and air pollution. The report highlights the disproportionate impact of climate change on children, increasing risks to their health, education, and overall well-being. UNICEF emphasizes the urgent need for increased investment in climate resilience and adaptation measures specifically targeted at protecting children and vulnerable communities. Failure to act will exacerbate existing inequalities and jeopardize the future of an entire generation, according to the agency. The findings underscore the critical link between climate action and child rights.
