The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully compelled a Chinese research vessel to depart waters near Batanes after it had been present for four days. The vessel, identified as Jia Hai Ke 7, was operating within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ). It was located 69 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes. The PCG confirmed the vessel has relocated following their intervention. This incident highlights ongoing tensions regarding China’s activities in the South China Sea and within the Philippine EEZ. The Philippines maintains its sovereign rights over the area and asserts its authority to monitor and regulate activities within its maritime domains. This is the latest in a series of confrontations involving Chinese vessels and the PCG.
