A Chinese company, Chint, has begun an environmental assessment for a large-scale renewable energy project in Portugal’s Alqueva region. The “Alqueva cluster” aims to incorporate 1,300 megawatts (MW) of solar and battery storage capacity. The project also includes the construction of two wind farms. The proposed sites are located in the municipalities of Portel and Vidigueira. This initiative represents a significant foreign investment in Portugal’s renewable energy sector. The environmental review will determine the project’s potential impact before construction can proceed. If approved, the cluster would substantially boost Portugal’s renewable energy production.
