China has regained the top spot in supercomputing power, surpassing the United States for the first time since 2017. The LineShine computer, located in Shenzhen and operated by the National Supercomputer Center, achieved first place in the latest TOP500 list released Tuesday. LineShine’s performance reached 2.198 exaflops, exceeding two quintillion calculations per second. The US supercomputer El Capitan ranked second, followed by two other American systems in Tennessee and Illinois. Notably, LineShine uniquely relies entirely on traditional CPU processors, differing from the GPU-based architecture common in modern supercomputers and AI technology. The system consumes approximately 42.2 megawatts of electrical power during operation.
