Chinese scientists have developed a novel plant capable of simultaneously extracting valuable resources from seawater. The plant, created by researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, co-produces hydrogen and fresh water while also recovering uranium and bromine. This innovative system represents an improvement over previous technologies, addressing concerns about cost and high energy consumption. The new plant achieves approximately a 15 percent increase in electricity use efficiency. Led by Deng Dehui and Liu Yanting, the team published their findings in the journal *Nature*. This development offers a potentially sustainable approach to resource acquisition in China, utilizing the vast reserves of the sea.
