China’s top anti-corruption official in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) concluded a training program for senior military leaders with a call for increased loyalty to the Communist Party. Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission, Zhang Shengmin, stated the training successfully enhanced ideological alignment and accountability among participants. This unprecedented course signals a heightened emphasis on political obedience within the military ranks. The initiative aims to reinforce the Party’s control over the armed forces, particularly as China approaches the centenary of the Communist Party. Zhang stressed the need for ongoing “political rectification,” suggesting continued scrutiny and ideological enforcement. The training’s focus underscores concerns about potential dissent or corruption within the PLA and a desire to ensure unwavering support for the Party’s leadership. This move reflects President Xi Jinping’s broader campaign to consolidate power and strengthen the military’s allegiance.
