China has revealed a new series of portable laser weapons designed to disable drones, showcased at a Beijing defense exhibition. Developed by Harbin Xinguang Optic-Electronics Technology, the “Lijian” (Sharp Sword) system allows individual soldiers to counter unmanned aerial vehicles. The weapons utilize high-energy lasers to target and neutralize drones, a capability previously considered futuristic. This demonstration highlights China’s advancements in directed-energy weapons technology and its focus on addressing the growing threat posed by drones. The three-day Defence Information Equipment & Technology Exhibition 2026 provided the platform for the unveiling. Experts suggest this technology could significantly alter battlefield tactics and security protocols.
