Former Chilean Judge Verónica Sabaj has appointed Leonardo Battaglia Castro as her new lawyer after several changes to her legal team. Battaglia is a seasoned criminal lawyer with experience in high-profile cases, having previously defended business leaders, military officials, and priests, including the controversial Fernando Karadima. He recently defended a key figure in the "Hermosilla Case" through May. Beyond his legal work, Battaglia has also been involved in the administration of the Colo-Colo football club. Public records link him to two opaque companies based in Gibraltar, a territory historically known as a tax haven, raising questions about his international connections. His past cases and business ties are now under scrutiny as he takes on Sabaj’s defense.
