A macroeconomic evaluation mission led by Jean Claude Nguemeni of the CEMAC Commission commenced in Yaoundé, Cameroon on September 1st, 2026. The mission began with consultations at the Technical Committee for Monitoring Economic Programs, chaired by Jean Tchoffo, to finalize the agenda and discussion framework. This marks the start of multilateral surveillance for Cameroon, a key mechanism for coordinating economic policies among the six CEMAC member states—Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Chad. The primary objectives of the mission are to promote convergence of budgetary and macroeconomic policies, maintain the stability of the common currency, and bolster fiscal discipline and transparency in public finance management. Strategic issues were identified and the mission’s schedule was approved during the initial consultation. This surveillance aims to align national economic trajectories with regional standards, reinforcing the zone’s overall resilience.
