The Democratic Union of Cameroon (UDC) has strongly condemned the alleged torture and inhumane treatment of political activist Jacques Bertrand Mang. The UDC, through its president Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya, expressed deep concern over reports that Mang was tortured following an incident on June 30, 2026, in Douala. The party emphasized that such actions, if confirmed, would be a severe violation of fundamental rights and the rule of law. The UDC asserts that no political engagement or disagreement justifies torture or cruel treatment, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter. They specifically request authorities to ensure Mang’s physical and moral integrity, and the full protection of his rights. Mang is known for his outspoken views on social injustice and governance within Cameroon, and has previously been subjected to involuntary psychiatric evaluation.
