A recent event hosted by the AFIRI Center in Cameroon, dedicated to supporting women facing violence, brought together diplomats and institutional partners to advocate for increased action against gender-based violence (GBV). Held on International Women in Diplomacy Day, the gathering focused on strengthening the protection of women and survivors of violence. The AFIRI Center, which aims to become a comprehensive support facility for women, was praised for its work and acknowledged the support of President Paul Biya, the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, and the UNFPA. The UNFPA representative, Dr. Justin Koffi, highlighted the importance of women diplomats and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to achieving “Zero GBV” in Cameroon. Participants emphasized the need to move beyond statements and implement concrete actions and empowerment mechanisms for women. The center is now self-funded and seeks continued support from diplomatic missions to expand its services.
