Cameroon and the United States recently held a joint seminar focused on combating the illicit use of cryptocurrencies by criminal and terrorist networks. Experts from US agencies like the FBI, DEA, AFRICOM, and Counter Threat Finance worked with Cameroonian security forces to address evolving threats in the digital space. The seminar focused on tracing illicit transactions, disrupting terrorist financing, and dismantling transnational criminal networks utilizing digital assets for money laundering. This collaboration highlights a continued US commitment to supporting Cameroon’s security efforts and strengthening its capabilities in the digital realm. As cryptocurrencies become more prevalent, extremist groups and traffickers are adapting their methods, shifting from cash to virtual wallets. Cameroon aims to stay ahead of these emerging threats and prevent becoming a hub for “crime 2.0” through this technical partnership and knowledge-sharing initiative.
