Cameroon has received an €81.2 million (53.263 billion CFA francs) loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to boost agro-industrial development in its Northern and Far North regions. Approved on July 13th in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, the funding will support the first phase of a program focused on building multi-functional dams. These dams aim to improve water access for agriculture, increase agricultural productivity, and enhance the resilience of local communities to climate change. The project also includes the installation of weather stations, reforestation efforts, and the creation of community forests. Beyond irrigation, the initiative seeks to boost incomes, create jobs, lessen resource-related conflicts, and improve access to essential services. The overall program is valued at €88.74 million, with the Cameroonian government contributing an additional €7.54 million, with a second phase planned involving larger dam construction.
