A police commissioner was killed and six teachers were abducted on Tuesday in an ambush in the Northwest region of Cameroon, security sources reported. The victim, Mbah Tobie Damase, was traveling with a convoy including the prefect of the Menctchum department, Abdoullahi Aliou, and other security forces when they were attacked by armed individuals suspected of belonging to separatist groups. The convoy was inspecting schools to ensure classes had resumed following the September 7th school reopening date. The attack occurred as the convoy approached the Teacher Training College of Technical Education in Wum, the capital of the Menctchum department. Authorities report that security forces are pursuing the assailants. The commissioner, originally from the East region of the country, was nearing retirement, and the Northwest and Southwest regions have been experiencing armed conflict since 2017 between government forces and separatists seeking independence.
