The Scientific and Cultural Council of the National Museum of Cameroon met in Yaoundé on September 30, 2026, under the leadership of Ngeh Rekia Mbeume, to review heritage conservation efforts. Discussions centered on renovating exhibition halls, digitizing collections, and preparing for an upcoming Fang-Beti exhibition. The museum is undergoing significant changes, with previously made recommendations being implemented with support from Expertise France, including the translation of project documents into English. The modernization project, funded by the C2D-Culturel program, will continue through December 2027, focusing on space renovations, photographic archive digitalization, and enhancing visitor experience. Key initiatives include the “Citizen’s Path,” educational materials, a mobile museum, and the aforementioned Fang-Beti exhibition. ICOM Cameroon aims to align the museum with international standards, fostering a more open and connected institution.
