Bishop Emeritus Francis Teke Lysinge of Mamfe, Cameroon, passed away on July 29, 2026, at the age of 88 due to illness. He dedicated nearly his entire life to serving God and the Catholic Church in Cameroon, having served as a priest for 60 years and a bishop for 27. Bishop Lysinge was known for his faithful, courageous, simple, and joyful application of God’s will in his ministry. Current Bishop Aloysius Abangalo Fondono praised his predecessor's devotion, consistency, faith, wisdom, and courageous leadership, particularly during his tenure leading the young Diocese of Mamfe from 1999 to 2014. Ordained as a priest in 1966, he was appointed Bishop by Pope John Paul II and consecrated by Cardinal Christian Tumi. The diocese is now preparing for his funeral, and Bishop Fondono has called for prayers and masses for the repose of his soul.
