Cameroon’s Minister of Domains, Cadastre and Land Affairs, Henri Eyebe Ayissi, met with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on October 5, 2026, in Yaoundé to establish a cooperation focused on linking land security with migrant reintegration. The meeting acknowledged land issues as a critical factor in population movements, with resource pressures and land insecurity driving both migration and complicating return processes. The IOM praised Cameroon's commitment to the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration as a foundation for new initiatives. Currently, Yaoundé is developing strategic documents, and the IOM believes strengthening connections between land and migration policies is vital. Discussions centered on building an institutional framework to anticipate land pressures, secure rights, and promote sustainable migrant reintegration into their communities. This dialogue signifies a shared commitment to reconciling land management with human mobility, positioning land as a key element for stability and development in Cameroon.
