Cameroon is actively participating in a pan-African initiative to improve mental health, sending a delegation of psychiatrists and experts to the 6th Heal by Hair event in Togo. This project, led by the Bluemind Foundation, aims to reach over 600,000 women and families across the continent. The collaboration between Cameroon and Togo signifies a commitment to tackling the significant mental health challenges facing Africa, where 85% of those affected receive no care and there is a severe shortage of psychiatrists. The current session focuses on training 300 hairdressers as mental health ambassadors, supported by experts from Cameroon, Togo, and Ivory Coast. Coordinated by Dr. Christian Eyoum, the initiative aims to support one million women by the end of 2026. Cameroon previously hosted the 3rd edition in 2023 and is dedicated to building a unified African response to mental health issues, particularly for women and youth.
