Cameroon has officially become one of the 29 founding members of the World Artificial Intelligence Coopération (WAICO). The agreement was signed onC on July 16, 2026, in Shanghai, China, by Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Minette Libom Li Likeng. This independent intergovernmental organization was established during the World Intelligence Conference. Cameroon is one of ten African nations joining global powers like China, Russia, and Brazil in this initiative. The creation of WAICO follows a 2025 proposal by Chinese Premier Li Qiang to enhance AI governance. The organization aims to implement a global action plan across thirteen priority areas. Key focus areas include the development of digital infrastructure and data centers. These efforts seek to foster international scientific cooperation and structured AI regulation.
