Cameroonian authorities conducted a large-scale operation in Yaoundé and surrounding areas on the night of August 13-14, 2026, targeting illegal fuel sales. The National Brigade for the Fight against Fraud of the Ministry of Water and Energy (MINEE) seized 928 liters of diesel during the raid, focusing on neighborhoods like Nkoabang, Ekounou, and Awae, known as a key transit point. Despite regular crackdowns, illicit fuel vendors continue to operate, utilizing makeshift storage like jerrycans and drums. The MINEE aims to disrupt these illegal networks and secure the petroleum distribution chain, protecting both consumers and state revenue. The Ministry emphasizes the danger posed by fraudulent diesel, often stored improperly, and its unfair competition with legitimate gas stations. Further operations are planned across the country to reinforce these efforts and ensure regulatory compliance.
