Cameroon is implementing a national financial sector development strategy aiming to transform the country into a modern financial hub by 2030. The plan, launched by Finance Minister Louis Paul Motaze, includes key reforms like establishing a mortgage refinancing fund and a guarantee fund management company. The government intends to increase the financial sector’s contribution to GDP from 3% to 7-10% by 2030, hoping to add an average of 2.3% to annual growth. These initiatives seek to address a housing deficit of 2.5 million units and improve long-term financing options. Furthermore, the strategy focuses on improving debt recovery, reducing non-performing loans, and fostering a more professional financial sector, with a total budget allocation of 102 billion FCFA. The goal is to stimulate economic growth and attract investment.
