Cambodia has secured a seat on the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, beginning in 2026 and lasting through 2030. This election took place during the 11th General Assembly of States Parties to the 2003 convention. The appointment is anticipated to bolster Cambodia’s role in developing global strategies for preserving living cultural traditions. It signifies international recognition of Cambodia’s commitment to cultural preservation. The committee oversees the implementation of the UNESCO convention concerning the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage. This position allows Cambodia to actively participate in decisions regarding funding and support for cultural heritage initiatives worldwide. The country will contribute to identifying and protecting diverse cultural expressions globally.
