Authorities in Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchey province have reported significant progress in combating online scams. Over the past seven months, over 200 scam operations have been dismantled, leading to the detention of tens of thousands of foreign suspects. Governor Oum Reatrey highlighted the collaborative efforts of joint law enforcement teams in achieving these results. Despite this success, the governor cautioned that the city of Poipet is not yet completely free from scam activity. The crackdown signifies a concentrated effort to address the growing problem of online fraud impacting the region. Further operations are anticipated to fully eradicate the issue and ensure public safety. The ongoing work aims to dismantle criminal networks exploiting vulnerable individuals through online deception.
