Cambodia has once again voiced its strong support for the international treaty prohibiting anti-personnel landmines, known as the Ottawa Convention. The reaffirmation came during recent meetings in Geneva, where Cambodia’s UN representative, Keo Sovann, highlighted the convention’s humanitarian goals. Sovann emphasized the critical need for continued landmine clearance operations worldwide. He also stressed the importance of encouraging more countries to join the treaty and fostering collaboration between those already committed. Cambodia’s dedication to the treaty reflects its own history with landmines and its ongoing efforts to remove them from its territory. The country aims to be mine-free by 2025 and actively participates in international initiatives to achieve a global ban on these weapons.
