Roxanne Quimby, co-founder of Burt’s Bees, leveraged her business success to pursue large-scale land conservation in Maine. Initially an artist focused on sustainability, Quimby and her partner Burt Shavitz built a popular brand centered around beeswax products. Utilizing profits from Burt's Bees, she systematically purchased extensive tracts of Maine forestland, often facing opposition from the logging industry. In 2016, Quimby donated 87,500 acres of this land to the United States. A decade later, this significant donation has been formally designated as a national monument, securing its preservation. The donation reflects Quimby’s dedication to protecting the natural beauty of Maine for future generations.
