Archaeologists in Bulgaria have discovered a new inscription at the ancient Greek city of Heraclea Sintica, bolstering evidence of a previously unknown local cult dedicated to Heracles. The inscription references Heracles Kynagidas, known as “Heracles the Hunter,” suggesting a specific focus within the hero’s worship. This finding marks the second inscription linked to this particular aspect of Heracles discovered at the site. The excavation is being led by Professor Lyudmil Vagalinski, and continues to reveal details about religious practices in the region during antiquity. The discovery provides valuable insight into the diverse ways the mythological hero was venerated across the ancient world. Further research is planned to fully understand the significance of this newly uncovered evidence.
