Bulgaria will request parliamentary approval to host up to eight U.S. tanker aircraft at a military airbase, following public debate over a previous proposal to station them at a civilian airport. Prime Minister Rumen Radev announced the move during a conference of Bulgarian Ambassadors in Sofia. The request comes from Washington and aims to support U.S. military operations in the Middle East. Utilizing the Bezmer military facility is intended to address concerns raised regarding the initial civilian airport proposal. Bulgaria, as a NATO and EU member, is weighing the geopolitical implications of this decision. Parliamentary approval is needed before the U.S. aircraft can be stationed at the base. This decision reflects ongoing cooperation between Bulgaria and the United States on security matters.
