Bucharest has officially adopted legislation approving Romania’s participation in the European Defence Fund’s “Action for Security and Defence” (SAFE) mechanism. President Nicușor Dan signed the decree enacting the law on Friday, paving the way for increased investment in the nation’s defense industry. The SAFE instrument aims to bolster European defense capabilities by supporting collaborative projects and stimulating financial contributions. This move allows Romanian companies to access EU funding for defense-related research, development, and production. The legislation approves an emergency ordinance establishing the framework for Romania’s involvement. The initiative is expected to strengthen the European defense industrial base and enhance security cooperation across the continent. This aligns Romania with broader EU efforts to increase self-reliance in defense matters.
