China significantly increased its soybean imports from Brazil in June, reaching 12.08 million tonnes – a 13.7 per cent year-on-year increase. Simultaneously, US soybean shipments to China experienced a substantial 20.6 per cent decline, falling to 1.27 million tonnes. These figures, released by China’s General Administration of Customs, indicate Brazil is rapidly expanding its share of the crucial Chinese market. The total soybean arrivals reached a record 13.55 million tonnes for the month, driven by increased Brazilian supply. This trend highlights a discrepancy between the import volumes and the purchase commitments made under the trade deal agreed upon by Presidents Trump and Xi Jinping. The data suggests Brazil is capitalizing on opportunities as US exports struggle to meet expectations. This shift could indicate evolving trade dynamics within the global soybean market.
