The Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) and the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) have jointly launched a project delivering four 32ft passenger boats to atoll communities in Bougainville. The vessels are intended to improve transportation for residents of Fead, Carterets, Mortlock, and Tasman islands, areas particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. These boats will facilitate the movement of people, essential goods, and vital services to these remote locations. The initiative falls under the Building Resilience to Climate Change (BRCC) Project, aiming to bolster the capacity of these island communities to cope with climate-related challenges. The handover took place at Kuri Lodge in Buka, marking a significant step in improving connectivity and safety for these populations. Access to the full report requires a subscription to Post Courier.
