New election scanners are being implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina to mitigate voter fraud and manipulation in the upcoming elections. A recent study by the Coalition “Under the Lens” indicates that while these technologies will address potential issues with ballot integrity, they won't resolve the significant problem of voter coercion. The study highlights that approximately 40 percent of voters may face undue pressure before election day. This pre-election pressure tactics represent a continuing challenge to fair and democratic processes. The new scanners focus on securing the voting process itself, but do not protect against intimidation or external influences impacting voter choice. Therefore, a comprehensive approach is needed to ensure genuinely free and fair elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
