Bogotá’s city government has modified its “ley seca” – a ban on alcohol sales – in anticipation of the upcoming presidential runoff election. Previously, the ban began on Friday and ended on Monday. Following a meeting with bar and restaurant owners, the new regulation will shift the restriction to begin on Saturday and conclude at noon on Monday. This adjustment aims to balance security concerns during the election period with the economic interests of the hospitality sector. The decision was made to address concerns raised by businesses regarding lost revenue during the previous timeframe. The change is specifically timed to coincide with the second round of the presidential election. This modification seeks to minimize disruption while maintaining order during the voting process.
