The biography of 99-year-old Willem Wilbrink has been withdrawn from sale following questions about the veracity of his accounts of his wartime experiences, specifically his time at the Dachau concentration camp. Concerns arose after *Historisch Nieuwsblad* published a report questioning his story, alleging inaccuracies regarding his alleged involvement in the resistance and his experiences as a 'body carrier' at the camp near München. Retailers Bol.com, Bruna, and Amazon have removed the book, titled *Getekend voor het leven in Dachau en Indië*, at the request of publisher White Elephant Media from Arnhem, which has not yet commented. Wilbrink frequently attended WWII commemorations, including the National Commemoration of the Capitulation 1945 in Wageningen, and spoke to students about his past. Investigations revealed a lack of evidence supporting his claims – he had no registered camp number in Dachau, and the origin of several of his honors, including a Polish "hero title," remains unclear. Fellow Dachau survivors do not recall his stories and the Netherlands Dachau Committee had been aware of the inconsistencies since 2024, attempting to limit their spread.
