Bergen municipality is implementing 150 new no-ride zones for electric scooters throughout the city. These zones prohibit e-scooter use in areas frequented by children, including schools, kindergartens, and playgrounds. The initiative aims to increase safety for young residents, according to city officials. Upon entering a restricted zone, rental e-scooters will automatically have their motors reduced and eventually shut off. However, this technological regulation will not apply to privately owned e-scooters. City development official Eivind Nævdal-Bolstad stated the measure will make Bergen a safer city for children and youth. The new restrictions are expected to be fully operational shortly.
