A key leader of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Mohagher Iqbal, has called on governors and mayors within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to allow their constituents to vote without interference in the upcoming Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) scheduled for September 14th. Iqbal emphasized the importance of a free and fair election process for the democratic legitimacy of the BARMM parliament. This appeal aims to safeguard the electorate’s right to choose their representatives without coercion or influence from local officials. The BPE represents a crucial step in the transition towards full regional autonomy for the Bangsamoro people. Ensuring a transparent and unbiased voting environment is vital for the successful implementation of the peace agreement between the MILF and the national government. The anticipated elections are seen as historic for the region, aiming to strengthen self-governance and stability.
