Bangladesh enacted legislation in 2013 mandating financial support for parents, yet awareness and implementation remain significantly low. Despite being in effect for over a decade, many citizens are unaware of the law’s existence, leaving elderly parents vulnerable. Consequently, numerous parents face financial and social insecurity during their later years. Authorities acknowledge the lack of effective application and emphasize the need for increased public awareness campaigns. The law aims to ensure parents are financially secure, but its potential impact is hindered by limited knowledge and enforcement mechanisms. Experts suggest wider dissemination of information and robust implementation strategies are crucial to protect the rights of aging parents in Bangladesh.
