Seventeen Bangladeshi sailors aboard the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation’s (BSC) vessel 'Banglar Joyjatra' have returned home after being stranded in the Strait of Hormuz for 115 days. Their ordeal began following attacks by the US and Israel on Iran, leading to the ship's detention. The sailors arrived at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday afternoon via an Emirates Airlines flight from Durban, South Africa, with a layover in Dubai. They were held for almost four months due to escalating tensions in the region. The crew experienced significant hardship during their extended stay, awaiting resolution of the geopolitical situation. Fourteen other sailors remain abroad and are expected to return from Malaysia shortly. This repatriation marks the end of a challenging period for the sailors and their families.
