A significant challenge facing Bangladesh’s digital payment adoption is the transaction fee imposed on merchants. Currently, both large and small vendors are required to pay a fee of up to 1 percent for receiving payments through Bangla QR codes. This fee structure is considered timely in its implementation, but questions are being raised about its potential impact on wider acceptance and usability. Concerns center around whether the fees may discourage merchants, especially smaller businesses, from readily embracing digital transactions. Successfully addressing these economic hurdles will be crucial for ensuring the long-term effectiveness of the digital payment system. The focus now shifts to evaluating the system's practicality and optimizing it for broader participation and benefit. Ultimately, the goal is to boost digital financial inclusion without financially burdening merchants.
