Bangladesh’s Information and Broadcasting Minister, Jahiruddin Swapan, has revealed the country’s current media statistics in Parliament. According to the minister, there are a total of 59 television channels operating in Bangladesh, comprising 4 state-owned and 55 privately-owned channels with licenses. Currently, 39 channels – including the four state-run ones – are actively broadcasting. The country also has 1,436 newspapers and magazines in circulation. Furthermore, there are 474 registered online news portals operating within Bangladesh. These figures provide a comprehensive overview of the media landscape within the nation, as presented to the national legislature.
