Three excise officials were kidnapped in Balochistan’s Chagai district after a checkpost on the Dalbandin–Taftan Highway was attacked by approximately 30 armed men. The attack occurred Monday evening, resulting in the abduction of the officials, the theft of two official vehicles, and weapons. Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate the attackers and recover the hostages. This incident occurs amidst ongoing security concerns in Balochistan, recently highlighted by Operation Shaban launched in response to a July 6 attack that killed 27 police officers. A June report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) showed a sharp deterioration in Pakistan's security, with Balochistan being the most affected province, experiencing a 109% increase in terrorist attacks in May. The deteriorating situation is also reflected in a surge in kidnapping incidents across the region.
