A bakery owner in Touba, Senegal, entrusted the management of his business to S. Diop in 2022 while pursuing opportunities in Guinea-Conakry. The owner sent Diop 5 million FCFA to expand the bakery with two additional locations, based on an agreement of an 82/18 percent profit split. Upon returning, the owner discovered the expansion never occurred and the funds were missing, alongside other financial irregularities including discrepancies in flour orders and electricity fraud. After initially confessing, Diop later reduced his admitted debt during trial, claiming only 2.6 million FCFA was owed. The Diourbel court convicted Diop of breach of trust, sentencing him to two years in prison, with six months to be served. He was also ordered to pay 15 million FCFA in damages to his former employer.
