Austria’s Neos party is advocating for a unified European Union solution regarding age verification on social media platforms. This stems from concerns that the upcoming “EU Kids Acts” will necessitate a rapid overhaul of Austria’s current model within a year if it remains a national initiative. Ines Holzegger, the Neos’ digital affairs spokesperson, expressed this apprehension. The impending EU legislation could render Austria’s approach obsolete shortly after implementation. The Neos believe an EU-wide regulation would provide stability and avoid frequent adjustments to national laws. This issue centers on protecting minors online while maintaining a consistent regulatory landscape across the European Union. They aim to align Austrian policy with broader European standards.
