The director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, Piotr Cywiński, recently made the first official visit to Venezuela, marking the establishment of the museum’s first honorary council in South America. Led by Holocaust expert Professor Nora Fischbach, the council aims to strengthen awareness and preservation efforts. During the visit, Cywiński delivered lectures at Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB) and Universidad Metropolitana (Unimet), and inaugurated an exhibition titled “The Auschwitz Experience in the Art of Prisoners,” showcasing artwork and testimonies from former inmates. Cywiński emphasized the importance of safeguarding the memory of the Holocaust, expressing concern over its potential misuse for political gain. He cautioned against allowing historical narratives to be manipulated solely for electoral purposes. The visit underscores the museum’s commitment to international education and remembrance regarding the atrocities of the Holocaust.
