A mass attempt to enter the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in Morocco has resulted in at least 18 deaths, according to Spanish media reports. Thousands of migrants, many of them young people from Morocco and other African nations, attempted to reach Ceuta by swimming, boat, or climbing fences. The influx continues with thousands more travelling towards the border from Tanger to Fnideq, including many children and youths. Authorities have closed roads to manage the situation. Simultaneously, the Spanish enclave of Melilla is also facing increased pressure from migrants, prompting a border closure and warnings for residents to avoid the area. Reports indicate migrants attacked police and set vehicles on fire on the Moroccan side of the Melilla border, with around 400 individuals illegally entering Melilla.
