A significant Assyrian stele has been unearthed near Mosul, Iraq, close to the ancient Sun Gate of Nineveh. Discovered on June 6th by a collaborative Iraqi-American archaeological team, the stone monument is expected to provide further insight into the latter period of the Assyrian Empire. The Sun Gate, also known as Shamash Gate, is a historically important landmark within the ancient city. Officials believe the stele’s inscriptions and imagery could reveal previously unknown details about the empire’s final century before its fall. The find represents a valuable addition to the understanding of Mesopotamian history and Assyrian civilization. Further research and analysis of the stele are planned to unlock its full historical significance.
