A heavily armed commando robbed the Compagnie de distribution alimentaire (CDA) plant in Sébikotane, Senegal, on the night of July 15-16. The assailants appeared familiar with the facility, quickly locating and emptying the safe, with the total loss still being assessed. Police were alerted by locals and engaged in a shootout with the robbers, who ultimately escaped despite the response. Four gendarmes sustained injuries from shattered glass when their vehicle was hit by gunfire, but their lives are not in danger and most have been discharged from hospital. The national gendarmerie has launched a major investigation, mobilizing specialized units to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Investigators are interviewing employees and pursuing multiple leads in the case.
