Recent archaeological excavations at Mieza, northern Greece, are bolstering evidence that Alexander the Great received education there under the tutelage of Aristotle. The discoveries were made at the site of the ancient Royal Gymnasium of Mieza, a complex established during the reign of Philip II, Alexander’s father. This gymnasium served as an educational and athletic center for Macedonian royalty and elite youth. The findings contribute to a growing body of evidence supporting the long-held theory about the location of Alexander’s formative education. Archaeologists believe the site was a crucial center for the intellectual and physical development of future Macedonian leaders. Further research is expected to reveal more details about the curriculum and daily life at the gymnasium during this pivotal period in ancient history.
